A Youth Mountaineering Education Program

A Quest Beyond Limits - Part I - First Ascent - August 2010

The first projects the team will be attempting will kickoff in Aug 2010 and will include climbing three different peaks.  All three mountains are in the extreme Karakorum Range, Hunza/Shimshal area near the China border. Two of the peaks are technical, the third one is semi-technical but very demanding. From the tops of these peaks, K2 and other high mountains can be seen.

First Pakistani Woman Going over 6400m

The main program objectives are to provide education and awareness about mountaineering to youth and to encourage and promote women’s adventure in the country.  In keeping in line with this second objective, the first project will be for the first Pakistani woman to climbing over 6400m.  The peak that has been chosen is Chashkin Sar, now called Samina Peak, 6400m, and is located in the Shimshal, Upper Hunza, Pakistan.  Samina Peak is located in the Maidur Valley, an easy access from Purian Sar.  The peak offers a magnificent view while passing in to Shimshal Pass.  The peak is a dome type and the chosen route will be from the east ridge.

Yergtak Peak

Yergtak Peak, 6335m, is the located in the east side of the Shimshal Valley, from where the peak is very easily viewed. The peak has only seen two ascents. The first ascent was made by Shimshal mountaineers and the second ascent was made by a German Expedition.

Unnamed, unclimbed peak

Located in Shimshal Pass (Shimshal Pamir, Showerth) this unnamed, unclimbed peak, ~6300m, offers an interesting view from Shimshal Pass.  Shimshal Pass is considered to be the most tourist visited place due to its magnificent view and rich culture.  The peak has a very close view from the pass. A tall standing peak between to dome type peaks and to the far left is Golden Jubilee Peak, 6130m.  A very close view of K2 and other 8000m peaks is possible from the summit of this peak!
